It is understood that the reason why the exhibitors were invited to participate in the exhibition lies in the remarkable achievements of Miliis in overcoming High Altitude Disease in cows. Located in the Xingsha International Enterprise Center in Changsha Economic Development Zone, Miliis is a company that focuses on intelligent wearable devices for animals and is dedicated to vertical scenarios of vital signs monitoring and intelligent health services.

Time back to the end of 2019, Miliis joined hands with the Institute of Subtropical Agricultural Ecology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of the Tibet Autonomous Region Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and Tibet Minghui Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Biotechnology Co. to tackle the Tibetan cow High Altitude Disease tackling project.

In recent years, the Tibetan region has vigorously implemented the rural revitalization strategy and increased the introduction of good breed cows. However, affected by geographic as well as climatic conditions, the introduction of good breed cows do not adapt to the high-altitude low-pressure and low-oxygen environment, and various manifestations of hypoxic compensations of the body, such as plateau cerebral edema, plateau pulmonary edema and other diseases, high mortality, low calf survival rate and low lactation performance.

Zhou Chuanshe, a researcher at the Institute of Subtropical Agroecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that dairy plateau disease has been a worldwide problem, and no effective prevention and treatment system has been formed. Without mature experience to draw on, the project team started from scratch, exploring step by step, discovering, trial and error, pushing back, finding the right path again, and practicing perfection.

After nearly two years of efforts, the project team developed an integrated program for the prevention and treatment of highland disease in dairy cows, which contains four major links: preferential selection, prevention, monitoring and early warning, and treatment and rehabilitation, and applies to two scenarios: newly introduced adult cows and newborn calves, comprehensively covering key time periods such as the introduction of cow habituation period, perinatal period, and calf growth period.

Among them, dynamic monitoring of vital signs is the key. The project team developed a wearable oxygen inhalation monitoring mask that enables dynamic monitoring of blood oxygen (SpO2) pulse rate, real-time monitoring of movement and body posture, and also adjusts oxygen inhalation according to individual needs. "We have also developed a corresponding software system for cow sign monitoring, which can record, organize and analyze sign data, and interact the relevant analysis results with users via the Internet. Once an abnormal situation occurs, the system automatically provides early warning through the APP, facilitating management and maintenance by ranch staff." The CEO of Miliis, Shen Chao, introduced.

Since the implementation of the project, a full set of hardware and software in five large ranches one after another, eight rounds of comprehensive application testing, and on the basis of which a number of technical solutions to improve. After long-term observation, wearing the mask does not affect the normal diet and other daily activities of cows. Li Bin, deputy researcher at the Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of the Tibet Autonomous Region Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences, said that the project technology system has proven to significantly reduce the morbidity and mortality of dairy cattle plateau disease, improve the survival rate of calves and the lactation performance of cows.

At present, the project has passed the acceptance, and in October, the first batch of equipment will be delivered. Next, Miliis will continue to focus on animal smart wearable devices and make efforts in the direction of companion animals and competitive animals to develop a new track of animal vital signs monitoring application services.
